As news is beginning to break worldwide (though not registering at all domestically, funny that) about how the United States has been not only torturing prisoners in Iraq, but torturing children in Iraq, I am trying to find the words to describe the situation.
Wait, I know this… They are on the tip of my tounge… Oh yes, they are:
Unfortunately, many Americans are guilty in Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay. One is ultimately to be held responsible. Will it be Donald Rumsfeld? Will it be Dick Cheney? Or will it be George himself?
Or will the United States once again deny their accountability under international law, as it alone is the final arbiter of reason, wisdom, and freedom?
You, the so-called leaders of the free world, make me sick. I am an American, and proud of so many things that this country has done and of the people of this nation. But I will never condone these acts of war or these atrocities committed in the name of preserving my freedom. My freedom is not preserved when it is defended at the cost of the basic human rights of others. I wish that the leaders of my country understood this and governed this country accordingly. We entrust those leaders with a responsibly to direct the world’s most powerful military with discretion and honor. There is no honor in torture. There is no honor in shock and awe. You make me sick.
