Breaking the Blackberry cycle
May 17th, 2006 by DeWitt Clinton

I just now realized that I don’t want my Blackberry any longer. I’m not exactly sure why not. I think it has something to do with dependency issues. I carry it around everywhere and check it incessantly. Sure the Blackberry is useful on occasion, but it is present all the time.

Can anyone recommend a good replacement? Ideally the new phone will be small enough to slide into the front pocket of my jeans and have bluetooth. I’d love to find something that could sync the addressbook over iSync with the Mac. A high resolution screen and web access would be nice. Camera is optional, video is definitely optional, the ability to play mp3s isn’t even desired, etc., etc. Do I go with the Motorola RAZR? I’m on T-Mobile but I could break the contract and switch if I had to — perhaps for a better data network?

What are your phones of choice these days?

And also, I will have a used Blackberry 7100t for sale soon.

Nokia N73. 3.2 MP camera, Series 60 version 3 (python on your phone), and lots of sync apps on the go to post to Flickr or an address book.

Niall, is that the phone that you were using the other day?

I have a RAZR that syncs both calendar and address book perfectly with the Mac.

I have to admit that I’m really tempted by the RAZR. The form factor is great, even if the keypad looks like star trek.

But maybe I should wait. The RAZR V3i is apparently coming out soon.

    According to phonescoop:

This update to the popular RAZR ultra-thin clamshell phone sports updated styling and adds a microSD memory card slot, iTunes music player, and speaker-independent voice control. The camera has also been upgraded to megapixel resolution and supports video capture. Other features include quad-band roaming, dual color displays, Bluetooth, and speakerphone.
