Over the years I’ve posted some of my photography here on unto.net. A few of the series, particularly the abstract ones were well received, and occasionally turn up around the net in interesting places.
This is all well and good, especially since I’ve licensed all of my work under the Creative Commons License, which allows for exactly this sort of remixing. (Granted, people are supposed to credit the author, but that’s okay.)
However, one thing we all learned back in 1995 was that you should never, ever deep link to someone else’s media and embed it on your own page. It’s just rude and makes it difficult for the hosting site to control their bandwidth usage. And besides — it opens the other site up to a bit of a prank.
What follows is definitely not safe for work. I’m not even going to post it here (it will be in the comments). Please, if you are pure at heart, or my parents, or my gf’s parents, why don’t you instead read about the nice coffee grinder we just bought.
The prank was easy — I simply used modrewrite to redirect requests to the image in question with a HTTPREFERER of his page over to somewhere else. And, just to make things a little more amusing, I continue to serve the real image if the IP happens to be the one I presume he blogs from.
Let us see how long this lasts…
