Breakdown is looking for an intern. “Intern” is just a fancy bourgeois name for someone that works as a part-time editor but does not get paid anything. Or get college credit. Or free drinks. But you do get to put it on your resumé under any title you would like to. Director of Strategic Asset Management? Senior Content Acquisitions Editor? Sure! Whatever you want. Depending on how well you do at it, we may even corroborate your story when we’re called as a reference.
Qualified individuals will be able to read, locate internet cafés, and operate a telephone. Especially qualified individuals will write in complete sentences, frequently attend live shows, have good taste in music, and actually give a shit.
Responsibilities will include keeping up to speed on the independent music scene, writing pithy news briefs, hanging out with interesting people talking about cool shit, and, if not actually taking Breakdown’s laundry to the laundromat once a week, then at least reminding us to do it our own damn selves.
Applicants should send a 5000 word, single-spaced essay on “How Malcolm McLaren Influenced Popular Music.” Give specific examples from at least three decades. Compare and contrast his efforts with contemporaries. Be sure to footnote accurately and cite your references.
Or alternately, try just sending us an email saying “hello” to ineedajob@breakdownindustries.com. Whichever is more convenient.
[Ed., oh for the love of Lou, we weren't serious about the essay. A simple email is fine next time, kids.]
