People We’re Allowed to Scorn

Well, maybe not scorn exactly, but there are definitely good reasons to avoid some particular arists. Just take a look at these pictures on the RIAA homepage. So you may want to reconsider purchasing the next Foo Fighters or Pink albums, among others.

Read on to find out which artists and labels are shamelessly sleeping with the RIAA…

Other people featured on the RIAA photo page include Sarah McLachlan, Maroon 5 (who?), Justin Timberlake, Fleetwood Mac, Norah Jones, Kelly Clarkson, Mariah Carey, Avril Lavigne, and Bill Cosby.

On second thought, this list itself might offer a pretty good explanation on its own as to why the RIAA is seeing declining sales year after year…

And just so the artists don’t feel like we’ve singled them out, here are the record labels that actually have a seat on the RIAA board:

  • Arista Records Inc.
  • The Atlantic Group
  • BMG Entertainment
  • Buena Vista Music Group
  • Capitol Records
  • Edmonds Record Group
  • Elektra Entertainment Group
  • EMI Recorded Music
  • Maverick Recording Company
  • RCA Music Group
  • Solar Records/J.Hines Co.
  • Sony Music Entertainment Inc.
  • Tommy Boy Music
  • Universal Music Group
  • Univision Music Group
  • Virgin Records
  • Warner Music Group

Note that Sony actually has one of the largest representations on the RIAA board, so just remember that when you buy that next PlayStation 2 game, you are putting money in the hands of the same organization that is illegally subpoenaing internet access logs and filing lawsuits in a coordinated attack intended to intimidate their customers back into retail channels where they can better manipulate the prices.
